My Visit to City of Gold - Dubai (Day 03)

Day 03 @ Dubai

So my 03 day visit to Dubai is coming to an end. We were planning to study some history about the city on the third day. To start our adventure on the third day we visited Al Sabkha terminal to experience the Abra ride across Dubai Creek.

Abra Ride Across Dubai Creek

Dubai Creek is a natural salt water creek in Dubai. This creek divided the ancient Dubai to two parts known as Deira and Bur Dubai and along the ancient shorelines of Dubai Creek the city of Dubai started to develop. Traditional mode of transport in the Dubai Creek was the use of Abra boats. Which are still in use, We used Abra boats to reach Bur Dubai from Al Sabkha.

Bur Dubai Mosque

Once you get down at Bur Dubai you find totally different side of Dubai with ancient buildings and little shops. Amidst this historical city lies the Bur Dubai mosque. Though we were not allowed to enter the mosque the area around was impressive.

Dubai Museum

Dubai Museum is housed in an ancient fort in Dubai. Museum is built inside and under the fort. Though the outside view seems not very impressive once you enter the museum you will immediately understand the worth of the place. Museum is built in a way highlighting the history of Dubai and the region.

Al Fahidi District

Al Fahidi District is a development area destined as a place for shopping. Most of the buildings are pretty old and walking through these narrow streets will give you the feeling of walking in Ancient Dubai before the oil boom.

Sheikh House

This was the residence of Dubai's royal family, Al Maktoums. Today this palace has been renovated as a museum and Royal family has moved in to larger and luxury palace.

Dubai Souks

Dubai Souks are the traditional markets in Dubai used since antiquity. Entrance to the markets is free. However I read that most of the products are overpriced and felt same on the location. However visiting Gold souk, Spice souk and countless other souks are a must If you visit Dubai.

With the visit to Dubai souks our visit in the Gold city concluded. Then we headed our way to Abu  Dhabi to enjoy few days there before returning back to Sri Lanka.
