Pidurangala Temple
Pidurangala Royal Temple Pidurangala is a Buddhist monastery situated very close to Sigiriya, which is is an world famous tourist destination. Believed to be built by King Kashyapa who also built Sigiriya. But Pidurangala contains some evidences of pre - Kashyapa era history also. It is believed some archaeologists that the Sigiriya frescos depict princesses or concubines of King Kashyapa visiting the nearby Pidurangala temple. Pidurangala is very easy to reach from Colombo but since it doesn't take much time to visit this place it is advisable to arrange this trip together with a visit to Sigiriya and Dambulla.
