Kalpitiya - Wonder in the West Coast

Kalpitiya Kalpitiya is a fishing town located km from Colombo in North Western Province of Sri Lanka. Kalpitiya is in a peninsula which is named after the city itself which is bordered by the Indian ocean, Puttalam lagoon and the Dutch bay. Peninsula itself creates another lagoon known as Kalpitiya lagoon. Being in a peninsula kalpitiya is blessed with sandy beaches. Kalpitiya is situted in semi arid zone so is Rich with Flora and fauna matching the climate. Both the surrounding sea and the lagoon is Rich in wild life. Most of the people in kalpitiya make their living by fishing but with the boom of the tourism industry people are shifting from fishing to tourism. Anawilundawa - Paradise of the Birdies

Anawilundawa Bird Sanctuary Anawilundawa Sanctuary is situted in North Western Province of Sri Lanka. It is a  Ramsar  Wetland and is ideal for bird watchers and nature lovers.   The sanctuary covers 1397 hactares or 13.97 square km. Sanctuary is situted just next  to Putlam railway line and spreads upto the west coast. Sanctuary was declared on 11 June 1997. Wetland consist of six large man made tanks and 3 peripheral tanks interconnected to create a complex irrigation system. The larger tanks are Pinkattiya, Maradansola, Anawilundawa, Mayyawa, Surawila and Vellawali. This sanctuary is surrounded by settlements and paddy fields that are fed by above irrigational systems. Due to its location it is has been a ideal nesting ground for birds and lot of migratory birds also visit here. Baddegana Wetland Park

Baddegana wetland Park is a new addition to Colombo city.  This park was very recently opened for public and is an awesome place for nature lovers . The park is situated in Sri Jayawardanapura Kotte city limits. The park  is 18 hectares in size is in Sri Jayawardanapura Kotte bird sanctuary. Park features many varieties of plant species which are native to wet zone of Sri Lanka and has been developed in a way Shaw casing a wetland in the area.  Many paths that can be used to roam the park is surrounded by many trees and feature name boards. You can see quite a few kinds of birds here and butterflies and various insects are also in large numbers.  Sign boards with names of animals are installed here and there which are very educational. Duck pond, Wader walk,  Migratory Bird Walk, Butterfly walk are some areas in the park.  Observation tower in the park is very helpful for bird watching. Only downside of the park is the high number of couples in the park.  Nature lovers an
