Kalpitiya - Wonder in the West Coast

Kalpitiya Kalpitiya is a fishing town located km from Colombo in North Western Province of Sri Lanka. Kalpitiya is in a peninsula which is named after the city itself which is bordered by the Indian ocean, Puttalam lagoon and the Dutch bay. Peninsula itself creates another lagoon known as Kalpitiya lagoon. Being in a peninsula kalpitiya is blessed with sandy beaches. Kalpitiya is situted in semi arid zone so is Rich with Flora and fauna matching the climate. Both the surrounding sea and the lagoon is Rich in wild life. Most of the people in kalpitiya make their living by fishing but with the boom of the tourism industry people are shifting from fishing to tourism. Anawilundawa - Paradise of the Birdies

Anawilundawa Bird Sanctuary Anawilundawa Sanctuary is situted in North Western Province of Sri Lanka. It is a  Ramsar  Wetland and is ideal for bird watchers and nature lovers.   The sanctuary covers 1397 hactares or 13.97 square km. Sanctuary is situted just next  to Putlam railway line and spreads upto the west coast. Sanctuary was declared on 11 June 1997. Wetland consist of six large man made tanks and 3 peripheral tanks interconnected to create a complex irrigation system. The larger tanks are Pinkattiya, Maradansola, Anawilundawa, Mayyawa, Surawila and Vellawali. This sanctuary is surrounded by settlements and paddy fields that are fed by above irrigational systems. Due to its location it is has been a ideal nesting ground for birds and lot of migratory birds also visit here.
