Korathota Raja Maha Viharaya

Korathota Rajamaha Viharaya is an ancient temple situated in Colombo District in Korathota Village just 20km from Colombo City off Kaduwela-Athurugiriya Road. Temple boasts a history spanning around 2000 years. Korathota Rajamaha Viharaya is  blessed with two old rock inscriptions. Being situated in a small hillock temple complex has six caves most of which have drip ledges indicating that these caves have been used for human habitation. Two rock inscriptions found have been dated before 1st century AD and mentions of grants by the royalty of the times. Grant of a cave by the daughter of a king to the Maha Sangha. While the king is believed to be King Mahachula Maha Tissa as per historian Mr. Senarath Paranawithana Grant of a cave to Maha Sangha by the local ruler Sumana. Neelawarai Well

Neelawarai well is a natural fresh water well found in Jaffna District which never deppletes even at extreme whether conditions. Many legends are associated with the place while the most famous being the well is bottomless. How ever the latest findings have revealed that the well is extremely deep(52.5m). Some legends are also linked to Ramayana and the well is considered as sacred by the locals. Archeological Department has conducted excavations to find depth of the well and it was found that the well was 52.5m deep and the layer of water below 18.3m gets salty as it goes down. Salinity levels remains different due to a equilibrium occuring in the well. Water at the bottom was clear but sunlight does not reach due to a zone of unclear water present between m to m. Excavations also revealed remains of carts on the bottom probably remains of an ancient ritual. It was also found that many tunnels extend from the well to different sides.
