Haputhale on Denuwara Manike
Since the day SL railways introduced a new Intercity express to Badulla 'Denuwara Menike' I wanted to visit Badulla. However, reservation of seats was difficult due to high demand and my mom was able to reserve tickets only for our return journey. We decided to leave to Badulla on the night mail train. But our train journey was interrupted due to the bad whether and when we were in the station it was announced that the train will leave only to Bandarawela. We instantly changed our plans and our journey decided to get down at Haputale another famous hill station in Sri Lanka.
We found a decent hotel online and staff was happy to accommodate our request for early check in. Once the accommodation issue being sorted we took a Tuk to Adisham Bungalow.
Adisham Bungalow
This is a Benedictan Monastery housed in a Country House built by a English Planter in 1930's when British were ruling the country. This looks like an English country cottage and have been preserved with belongings of the original owners. Place currently functions as a Benedictan monastery and is well kept.
Lipton's Seat
Our next stop was Lipton's Seat which was close to Haputalle and we took Dambetenna Bus that leads to Dambetenna which is very close to Lipton's Seat. Bus Journey was pretty enjoyable winding through the hill country among tea estates. After getting down at Dambetenna we took a Tuk to reach to Lipton's Seat but you can walk but its bit far away so Tuk will be ideal.
At Lipton's Seat you can experience a wonderful panoramic view of Sri Lankan Central Hills specifically Eastern Slopes. Geographic placement of Lipton's Seat enables viewers to observe 5 districts from the same viewing platform.
St. Andrew's Church
This Church was a beautiful little church in Haputale city, Since the time was not enough to visit Prabhawa view point which we planned earlier we just visited the church to spend some time walking amidst well kept garden. Church is said to be around 150+ years old.
Next morning was dedicated to walk around the city. We just brought some fresh fruits and veges at the local market.
After spending quality day in Haputale we left for Colombo on the next day using Denuwara Menike Train.
